James D. Morgan Sr. 95 a retired Assistant Director of Personnel at the University of Maryland died June 2 2012 at Emeritis Assisted Living in Port Orange FL. Mr. Morgan formerly of Titusville had been a resident of Emeritis since 2004. Mr. Morgan moved to Florida from Laurel Maryland in 1980. He was born in Pittsburgh and raised in Eckhart Mines Maryland. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a military policeman. Following the war Mr. Morgan attended the University of Maryland and received both a bachelors and masters degree in business administration. Mr. Morgan held the position of Assistant Director of Personnel at the University of Maryland for over 30 years. During his tenure at the University of Maryland Mr. Morgan was also the public address announcer for the athletic department. He announced most of the major sporting events for over 25 years. Many Maryland fans knew him as the "Voice of the Terrapins". In March 2001 Mr. Morgan was honored for his service to Maryland athletics during halftime of the final basketball game played at Cold Filed House.Mr. Morgan was an active member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Titusville from 1980 to 2004. He served on many church committees. His wife Betty Marie Stemple Morgan whom he married in 1941 died in 2000. Survivors include a daughter Eleana of Greenbelt MD two sons Gary of Port Orange FL and James Jr. of Frederick MD five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. There will be no local service or viewing and Mr. Morgan will be buried in Eckhart Mines MD at the convenience of the family.
