James "J.D." Kirkland, Jr., 65, of Ormond Beach, Florida passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Halifax Health Medical Center, Daytona Beach, FL. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 14th at Lohman Funeral Home; 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach at 2:00 pm, the family will receive friends beginning at 12 noon. Graveside services and interment will be held on Tuesday, August 15th at 1:00 pm at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Thomasville, GA.
J.D. was born November 2, 1951 in Waycross, Georgia to James D. and Dorothy F. (Sweat) Kirkland.
He has been a resident of Volusia County since 1981, relocating from Thomasville, Georgia where he graduated from Central H.S. and went on to attend the University of Georgia.
J.D. owned and operated Kirkland Pools where he applied his pool technician skills.
He was a member of the Oasis Christ Fellowship Church in Ormond Beach, where he sang in a quartet, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, football, especially his beloved Bulldogs, spending time at the family farm in Georgia, and most importantly, being with his family.
J.D. was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Vernon and Gaines. He is survived by his son, Keelan Kirkland and his wife Felicia of Thomasville, GA, daughter, Elizabeth Kirkland, Bunnell, FL, brothers, Durrell and his companion/partner Kay Duff of Ormond Beach, and Malcome and his wife Susie of Americus, GA, two sisters, Geraldine Smith of Cartersville, GA and Dorothy "Dot" Showket and her husband Kal of Carmel, CA, two granddaughters, Jade and Ginger Kirkland, as well as 16 nieces and nephews.
