IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Anthony
"Joe" Clark
May 31, 1941 – October 22, 2025
James Anthony "Joe" Clark, 84, of DeLand, Florida, passed away peacefully on the evening of October 22, 2025. He was born on May 31, 1941, in Washington Court House, Ohio, to James and Gladys (Cooper) Clark.
Joe grew up in Xenia, Ohio, where he graduated from Xenia High School and proudly played on the varsity football team. He later attended The Ohio State University, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
On July 28, 1962, Joe married the love of his life, Carolyn Jean (Holtgreven) Clark. They shared 55 wonderful years together and raised two beloved children, Michael David Clark and Shelley Jo Miller. Joe and Carol also cherished their role in helping raise three adored grandchildren, Jennifer Nicole Clark, Adam James Clark, and Andrew Steven Miller, as well as a great-grandson who brought them endless joy, Kenneth Patrick Nugent.
Since 1979, Joe made his home in Florida, where he built a long and successful career in sales, a fitting profession for someone as outgoing and personable as he was. Known for his quick wit, love of cards, and devotion to Ohio State football, Joe was a natural storyteller and a loyal friend. Above all, he found fulfillment in helping others and spreading laughter wherever he went.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Jean "Carol" Clark, and by his parents, James and Gladys Clark.
Joe is survived by his children, Michael D. (Gloria Snack) Clark and Shelley J. (Greg Tolley) Miller; his grandchildren, Jennifer Nicole Clark, Adam James (Michelle) Clark, and Andrew Steven Miller; his great-grandson, Kenneth Patrick Nugent; and his aunt, Iona F. Kelleher.
Joe will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and generous spirit, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A funeral service for Joe will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 1:00 pm at DeLand Memorial Gardens.
