JAMES WATTERS GRIFFITHS
November 15, 1927 - September 7, 2016

James Watters Griffiths, "Jimmy", age 88, of Ponce Inlet, FL went to be with the Lord on September 7, 2016. A beloved husband, brother-in-law, uncle and friend passed peacefully at home in Ponce Inlet, FL next to his wife Jackie and with her family present, after a long period of declining health.

Born in Merion, PA, as the son of mother Martha Watters Griffiths and father William C. Griffiths, both who predeceased him, as well as one brother, William C. Griffiths Jr., who passed in 1988.

He shared his life with his wife of 23 years, Jackie Troutman Griffiths of Ponce Inlet, FL, and they moved from Norfolk, VA to Florida, finally looking forward to escaping the snow and cold "up north." The couple had travelled our country extensively by car for decades, visiting cities and all the 48 states to see the natural beauty of the country, as well as many man-made attractions. His interest in new things never waned, even when the road became tougher.

His greatest interests included trains and lighthouses, as well as boating, golf, and his special talent for creating watercolors with a style reminiscent of the work of friends Jamie and Andrew Wyeth.

He attended Radnor High School in Wayne, PA, and followed by earning a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Delaware. He worked for 46 years for the family industrial hardware business of Watters and Martin, Inc. of Norfolk, VA, and retired as President in 2001. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Virginia Wesleyan College, where he had studied art, and served as Chairman of the Norfolk Electoral Board for eight years. He holds a family charter membership in the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, and formerly served as a Board Member of the Virginia Symphony.

He was a member of the Daytona Beach Drive-In Christian Church.

He is survived by Niece Amy Shenk and her husband Craig of Pottstown, PA, Nephew Ross M. Griffiths of Worcester, MA (Great-Nieces Nina Alacia Shenk and Anna Emelia of Pottstown PA) as well as Sister-in-Law Corrine Griffiths of Pottstown, PA. ) He is also survived by sisters-in-law Dr. Kay Brawley and husband John Hakemian of Ponce Inlet, FL Carol Ludwick and husband John of Woodleaf, NC, as well as Niece Dava Snider of Street, MD, (Great-Niece and Nephew Peyton and Gavin), Niece Michelle Stafford of Selma, NC (Great Niece Brittney & Great-Nephew Cory), and Nephew Daniel Ludwick of Woodleaf, NC.

Relatives and friends and Harbour Village neighbors are invited to a reception at 1:00 pm at the Harbour Village Community Services building at 4622 Links Village Drive, Ponce Inlet, following the funeral service at Lohman Funeral Home-Port Orange. Burial will follow reception at 2:30 pm at Daytona Memorial Park, 1425 Bellevue Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32114.
