James Allen Hughey Sr. (Jim) 81 of New Smyrna Beach passed away peacefully on Sunday December 26 2010 surrounded by the love of his family. Graveside Services will be held on Friday December 31 2010 at Lohman Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery 700 S. Ridgewood Ave. Edgewater at 1:00pm. Jim was born on April 26 1929 to the late Ike and Thelma (Wise) Hughey in Athens Alabama. Jim started in the Funeral Business at age 21 and was the owner of Hughey Funeral Home on the North Causeway in New Smyrna Beach for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church F and AM Lodge #149 (46 year member) former member of Shrine Club Anglers Yacht Club American Legion VFW New Smyrna Beach Yacht Club Rotary Club and Elks Lodge all of New Smyrna Beach. He was a Veteran of the Korean War. He will be truly missed and always remembered. Jim was preceded in death by his daughter Tamar Hughey of New Smyrna Beach and survived by his life partner of 47 years Margaret "Peggy" Hughey sons James "Jimmy" Hughey. Jr. of Jacksonville FL David Hughey of St. Thomas Virginia Islands and daughter Angela Hughey (Mike) Coleman grandchildren Mackenzie Garrett and Grant Coleman all of Orlando FL niece Linda Stidham and nephew Tommy Eversole both of Stroud Oklahoma and many extended family members and friends.
