James Lawrence Hayes of Daytona, Florida went to be with Jesus on January 20, 2022, after a fall two weeks ago, causing a hip fracture. His health declined, and he died peacefully with his family cheering him into glory.  James, known as Buddy, was born in Deland, Florida on September 23, 1928.  As a young boy, he was a "Bat Boy" for the City Island Islanders.  It was a very special time for him, and he talked about those times with zest.  He graduated from Mainland High School in 1947.  He proudly served his country in the US Navy, serving from 1948-1952.  He was a union electrician his whole working career.

James met his wonderful wife on a blind date, and they were married in 1953.  James and Janie were very devoted to each other, and lived a Christ-filled life for 68 years.  James was an avid runner, running many local marathons.  The highlight of his running days was running the New York City Marathon at the age of 60.  He loved playing golf and watching Gator football on television and in person.  He and Janie were both members of First Baptist Daytona since before their wedding.

Buddy is survived by his two sons, Michael (Rosa), and Todd (Deana), grandchildren Michael, Austin and Courtney, and two great-grandchildren, Millie and Logan.

To honor Jim, a Celebration of Life Service is planned.  Family, friends and members of the community are invited to join the Hayes family on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 2 pm, at First Baptist Daytona Beach, 10 First Baptist Parkway, Daytona Beach, Florida.

Burial will be private in Daytona Memorial Park, 1425 Bellevue Avenue, Daytona Beach, Florida.
