James Arthur Hasler, 89, of DeLand, FL passed away on May 12, 2021 at home.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2021 at First United Methodist Church of DeLand with Pastor Owen Stricklin officiating. Arrangements are by Lohman Funeral Home.
Jim was born in Pottsville, PA to Charles Arthur Hasler and Grace Kuentzler Hasler on September 23, 1931. He graduated from Pottsville High School. He attended seminary and was an ordained Methodist Minister in rural Pennsylvania. Jim married his 1st wife Shirley Dutter on December 31, 1951 in Pottsville. He worked as a Master Electrician, Electrical Estimator, and Vice President of Interstate Electric Company in Miami, FL before retiring in 1976. After retirement he worked part-time for Tri-City Electric in Orlando until 1990. Jim found love again and married Joyce Warfle Hawks on June 2, 2006 in Kona, Hawaii.
He was active at many Methodist churches over the years and most recently at First UMC DeLand. Jim volunteered his time and talents to the church and numerous charitable organizations. Jim enjoyed playing cards, going out to eat, and traveling the world.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Shirley Dutter, daughter Sharon Smith, and brother Richard Hasler.
Jim is survived by his wife Joyce Hawks, daughter Deborah Pinder, stepson Mark Hawks (Judy), stepdaughter Kimberly Geist (Gregory), son-in-law Richard Smith, brother Robert Hasler, sister-in-law Arlene Hasler, grandchildren Christen Vickery (Todd), Anna Jackson (Matthew), Melissa Garrett, Jason Pinder, and Justin Pinder, step grandchildren Brandon Rush, Chris Rush, Lela Geist, Lily Liseno (Jacob), Noah Geist (Summer), and Chloe Geist. Great grandchildren Toby and Nicholas Garrett, Bryson and Sidney Vickery, and Allie and Piper Jackson. He is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Jim was committed to many charities including Florida Methodist Children's Home, Habitat for Humanity, Prostate Cancer Research, and Meals on Wheels. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to a charity of your choice.
