James Michael Downey age 59 died Sunday May 22nd in Ormond Beach. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday June 4th at 1:00pm at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond 733 W. Granada Blvd. with Father Harry Wallace officiating.James was born in Newark NJ November 20 1945. When Jim was 7 his family moved to Sayreville NJ where he graduated Sayreville War Memorial High School. While in school he was a baker for 2 bakeries. At the age of 18 James proudly joined the United States Navy where he spent 10 years. James was attached to Seal Team 2 and served numerous years in Vietnam serving our country. Jim was most proud of being a Navy Seal and the years while being in the Navy. Jim later obtained his degree in accounting from the University of Maryland while being stationed in Spain. Jim loved to travel thru out Europe while stationed in Spain. Jim was a member of the American Legion Post 120 in Holly Hill a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4319 of Ormond where he served as an officer in both posts as well as District Adjutant for the American Legion; D.A.V. of Holly Hill; a member of the 40/8 and Elks in Ormond Beach. While Jim was an officer of American Legion Post 267 in Ormond Beach he chaired and co-chaired Law & Order which made Ormond Beach Police Officer Bob Arrington be named police officer of the year in the state of Florida for the American Legion which Jim was very proud of. Jim and his wife June owned an accounting/tax practice for 23 years. Jim loved to serve the community of Ormond Beach. Recently the city of Ormond Beach Declared May17th James Michael Downey Day. Jim is survived by his wife June of 23 years also from New Jersey; his brother Robert and his wife Helen as well as his father Robert of Sayreville NJ; his sister Karen of Philadelphia PA; his daughter Shannon Libby of St. Marys GA; his daughter Maria Flores of West Palm Beach FL; his nephews Michael and Robert Downey of Sayreville NJ and their families his aunt Ruth E. Downey of South Jersey and many aunts and uncles; cousins; and his mother in law Frances Lewis and her sister Claire Lubowicki of Lake Worth FL. Jim had a great love of cats and he thought of his cats as his ?Children?. We have lost a good friend humanitarian and loving husband.
