James Joseph Broderick of Port Orange, passed away on May 4, 2016 due to lung cancer. The son of James J. and May (Flanagan) Broderick, he was born in Manhattan, New York City in 1931.

Jim grew up in the Bronx, a stone's throw from Yankee Stadium and the old Polo Grounds. There were many great memories going to the games with his parents. Who could ask for a better show than when the Brooklyn Dodgers came to play the Giants? He attended Sacred Heart, Cardinal Hayes and Seton Hall College; played baseball, basketball and enjoyed bowling with his Knights of Columbus buddies. He served with the 258th Field Artillery Battalion of the 42nd Infantry (Rainbow) Division.

In 1953, Jim started working with IBM at its midtown HQ in New York City. Soon, after he met Teddie Setzer of Utica, who was doing her nurse residency in the Bronx. In 1955, Jim and Teddie were married at St. Francis de Sales in Utica and started their life together in Elmhurst, Queens, New York, and later in Flushing, Queens. They were blessed with and loved their six children and many good friends.

In 1987, Jim retired after nearly 34 years and moved initially to New Smyrna Beach, then to Port Orange in 1992. A parishioner of Our Lady of Hope church in Port Orange, he belonged to their Social Seniors and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his dear wife of 61 years Teddie; Don and Renata (Pompa) Broderick and daughter Sabrina; Anne and Harry Stuhler and son Michael; Lorrie and John Marsh and children Kristen, Lauren and John; Cathy and Michael Iacobellis and daughter Jamie and son Parker, Megan and fianc Cameron Purser, and Katie and Matt Fudal; Janice Marie Broderick; Theresa and Ken Paull and daughters Jennifer and Lisa; his dear sister Marion and Stan Garbarczyk and family; his many relations in the Flanagan, Shea and Wuthenow families; Thomas Lamphere and members of the Setzer family.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Hope church on Saturday, May 14 at 12 p.m., In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Our Lady of Hope (St. Vincent de Paul de Paul) and Halifax Hospice of Port Orange.
