Lt. Col. James Edward Bailey age 75 of Ormond Beach who died Monday August 22 2005 at home.
Col. Bailey was born March 23 1930 in Waterboro SC to Gerald and Alice Padgett Bailey and moved to this area from Goldsboro NC in 1999. James graduated from the University of South Carolina. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1975 after 25 years of service. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars having flown many sortees and logging in thousands of hours of combat flight time. Col. Bailey received his masters degree from The University of Dayton during his military career. James was a gold gloves boxing Champion while at the University of South Carolina an accomplished water skier where he performed at Silver Springs doing the trick skiing shows. James coached High School Football Basketball Track and Cross Country. He loved to drag race motocross racing and was a talented singer. James was predeceased by a daughter Bambi Bailey. He is survived by his loving wife Kay two sons Brad of Las Vegas NV and William of Columbia SC and Robert of Black Creek NC three daughters Bridgette Hyler of Pelham NC Brook Bailey of Columbia SC and Kay Anne Utley of Ormond Beach and four grandchildren Ashley and Morgan Freeman Grant Hyler and Destiny Bailey.
