Jakob Erwin Martin beloved husband of Liselotte, passed away peacefully at home on November 26, 2015. He was born in Viernheim, Germany on June 9, 1928 to Josef and Katharina (Knapp) Martin. In 1952 he and his wife immigrated to the U.S. From 1954 to 1956 he proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was employed by the Bulova Watch Company in Astoria, New York for thirty five years he was a toolmaker and manager until his retirement. After being snowbirds for many years, he and his wife relocated to Port Orange in 1993. Jakob was a long standing member of the German American Society and enjoyed many years of friendships therein. He was an avid gardener cultivating beautiful flowers and landscapes. Everything he planted grew and he always shared his bounty with everyone. Jakob enjoyed music, traveling, soccer matches and spending time with his family and friends. His yard, full of the trees he planted, the wildlife and the warm sunshine was a great comfort to him during his illness. Jakob was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters in Germany. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of sixty-five years, Liselotte, and many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews both in America and Germany who will all miss him dearly. A special heartfelt thank you to Linda and Patty for all your tender care during his illness and to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler for providing Jakob and his family with such comfort in his final days. Funeral services will be celebrated on Wednesday December 2nd at 11:30 am at Lohman Funeral Home; 1423 Bellevue Avenue Daytona Beach, Florida. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Interment with military honors will follow at Daytona Memorial Park.
