Funeral Services for Jacobus "Jack" Reelick age 79 who died Wed. March 24 2010 in Port Orange Florida will be held on Wednesday March 31st at 11am at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Roxbury CT. Interment will immediately follow at St. Patrick Cemetery Roxbury CT. His family will receive friends on Tuesday March 30th from 5-7pm at Lillis Funeral Home in New Milford CT.
Jack was born in The Hague The Netherlands on Dec. 6 1930. His family moved to Java Indonesia when he was a child. During WWII from the age of 12 to 16 he and his family were imprisoned by the Japanese during the occupation of Java. After the war he returned to Holland and after a stint in the Dutch Army he married Henny In 1955. They emigrated to the U.S. and became American citizens.
Jack worked as an electrical engineer for Consolidated Controls Corporation in Bethel CT for 30 years. He and Henny also established a nursery and landscape business J&H Flower Farm in Roxbury CT in 1968. After retiring from his "second job" about 5 years ago he and Henny began to winter in Port Orange FL. He documented his life experiences in a memoir entitled "My Life's Journey from Indonesia to Holland to the U.S.A." His message to future generations was to value freedom and take advantage of all the great opportunities this country has to offer.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Hendrika "Henny" Reelick his daughters: Tina Underwood and her husband Paul of Bridgewater CT Fran Siller and her husband Oscar of Sharpsburg GA Yvonne Reelick of Woodbury CT; a son Robert Reelick and his wife Dana of Woodbury CT; 5 Grandchildren Ian Ryan Cassandra Jaclyn and Lindsey; three brothers and one sister who reside in Australia/New Zealand his brother Hans and his wife Sally of both Roxbury CT and Ormond Beach FL and many nieces nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter Elizabeth ""Elly"" Reelick.
