Jack Lee Short 81 died Monday at The Halifax Medical Center Daytona Beach. Services will be held on Thursday June 28 2007 at 1:30 PM at Central Baptist Church 142 Fairview Avenue with Chaplin James Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until the service begins. Mr. Short was born February 13 1926 in Baltimore MD the son of Marion and Elsie Blackmon Short. During the Depression he traveled with his parents while his father painted Post Offices throughout Eastern United States from Wisconsin to Florida. He married Norma Shadley on February 24 1945. The couple came to Daytona Beach in 1953 where he launched his 40-year career as a painting contractor. His many commercial projects included the original work on the Daytona Speedway in 1959. Jack was an old movie buff with encyclopedic knowledge of classic films. He was also an avid golfer with a hole-in-one trophy from Riverbend Golf and Country Club. He is survived by his wife Norma his two sons Doug Short Raleigh NC and Greg Short Valdosta GA and his daughter Jeannie Short St. Petersburg FL. Jack had five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
