Jack Ford Sheldon, 75, of Port Orange, FL. died January 21 st , 2018 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Jamestown, N Y on April 6, 1942. Jack moved to Florida in 1952 living in Jacksonville, Wesconnet and eventually Orange Park. Jack graduated high school from Howey Academy where he played basketball. He later attended St Johns River College in Palatka, FL. He served in the US Coast Guard as a Sonar man during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Jack retired from the United States Postal Service where he worked as a rural route carrier. He was known to be especially attentive to the special needs of the elderly on his mail route, and many times sought medical and other services for those worthy individuals. His hobbies were boating, fishing and working on his house and yard. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved Mother, Lucille Kearney of Palatka; Fl. Jack is survived by his long time and beloved companion, Gay Heist Brumely, who cared for him, tirelessly, during his illness. Her devoted attention to him made his final years bearable. Sister, Judy Sheldon, nephews, Jeff, Mike and Steve Arrants, niece, Stacey B. King all of Gainesville, Fl. He is also survived by a total of seven great nephews and nieces. A private celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Jack's name to Hospice Care Center of Port Orange, FL.
