Jack Rivers

December 13, 1925 - August 23, 2021

Deacon Jack Rivers, SSgt United States Army (Retired), 95, of Daytona Beach passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021 surrounded by his family.

Jack Rivers was born on December 13, 1925. He was the 5 ^th and last surviving child born to Essie Mae Hall in Montrose, Georgia. A few years after losing his mother at the age of 13, Jack left Montrose and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard.  After completing his required years of service, he re-enlisted into the United States Army Infantry. Throughout the years, Jack would share countless stories of him engaging the enemy in close range combat, being an expert sharp shooter, walking among land mines. His most significant duty assignment was to Company "C" 370th Infantry Bn. While serving, he received much recognition including the Army of Occupation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Letter of Commendation, Letters of Appreciation, Certificate of Achievement, Missileman Badge and Expert Rifle. After serving this nation for 22 years, including active war time duty during World Word II and The Korean War, Jack was honorably discharged.

Jack became a certified appliance repairman and retired from Sears after 20 years. He was a man of God and an active and faithful member of New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Daytona Beach, Florida for over 72 years. During his 72 years of membership, Jack served as a Deacon, member of the Trustee Board and vocalist in the Male Choir. He obtained a Bachelor of Theology Degree from St. Luke Bible College and Seminary in May 1999. Jack enjoyed reading the Bible and singing hymns. He loved spending time with his family and working on his truck affectionately called "Ole Blue".

Jack was married to the love of his life, Fannie Louise Wiley Rivers for 67 years until her death on January 2, 2014. He was predeceased by his siblings Arthur Hall, Nina Hall, Jesse Hall, Robert Hall and Gladys Hall.

He leaves behind four children Rommel Rivers (Cynthia), Pernel Rivers, Jacqueline Rivers (Elijah Punter) and Sharon Rivers Levy (Charles).  Six grandchildren Evyn Rivers, Brittany Johnson, La-Shaie Rivers, Taylor Rivers, Bryanna Johnson, Jack Rivers (Zakiya Anthony) and a host of nieces, nephews and many extended family members. Special mention to his bonus children and families:   Mitchell Favors, The Clemmons Family, Karen Adams Landers and Family, Toni Solomon King and Family, The Ross Family and Master Bevel.

A Visitation will be held from 9:00am until 10am in the Chapel at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona, 1423 Bellevue Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. on Tuesday August 31, 2021.  A Graveside Service will follow at 10:00am in Daytona Memorial Park, 1425 Bellevue Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL 32114.
