Jack W
Benge
Jan 16, 1937 — May 7, 2026
While surrounded by the love of his family, Jack William Benge, 89, of Port Orange, FL peacefully joined our Lord on Thursday, May 7th.
Jack was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Ernest & Mary Jane Benge and brother to David Benge. He enjoyed working his family’s garden, hunting and playing basketball. He was devoted to his Grandma Russell whom he credits for his lifelong Catholic faith, as she ensured he received a Catholic education and accompanied him to Mass.
In 1956, Jack married the love of his life, Carole Annette Benge. They moved to Port Orange, FL over 68 years ago. Jack worked at the Kennedy Space Center in security during the early days of the space program. It was an exciting time in space exploration, allowing Jack to meet the first American astronauts, President Kennedy, and other dignitaries. Seeking new opportunities, he began a career in insurance in the 70s. He enjoyed serving his many clients until retiring with State Farm Insurance.
Jack and Carole were founding members of the Catholic Church of Epiphany. He served in many ministries including as a lector, greeter, chairman of the social activities and Parish Council, and member of the Help Center and Epiphany Manor board.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carole, and their son, Richard Benge. He is survived by his children: Joni Huntt (Steve) of Port Orange, Brian Benge (Betsy) of Coral Springs, and James Benge of Port Orange. He was the proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He loved attending his children and grandchildren’s games, concerts, plays, school and church functions. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, especially while travelling with them to see God’s masterpieces like the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Canadian Rockies and many more.
Visitation will be on Monday, May 18th from 6pm to 8pm at Lohman Funeral Home, 1201 Dunlawton Ave., Port Orange.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Mass will be held 11am Tuesday, May 19th at the Catholic Church of the Epiphany, 201 Lafayette St., Port Orange with a reception in the Parish Center immediately following.
