Hanson Irwin Clayton 83 South Daytona FL passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 30 2012. He was born September 20 1929 to Samuel and Ida B. Hanson in Freehold New Jersey and moved with his family to Harbor Oaks in 1945. He graduated from Mainland High School in 1949. He was the captain of his football team and received a four year scholarship to Florida State University. He retired from the Sheet Metal Workers Union 493 in 1992. He leaves to cherish his memory his high school sweetheart and wife of 62 years Mary Ellen Morris Hanson; sons Ray and Michael (Jennifer) Daytona Beach; Steve (Lisa) Ellijay GA and Gary (Lachelle) Cleveland TN; daughters Linda Bell Ponce Inlet Lisa Bowen (Tom) Chattanooga TN and Rhonda Ward (Cecil) Port Orange; sister Emma Freeman Cincinnati OH; 18 grandchildren 13 great grandchildren and many other loving family and friends.
He is predeceased by his brothers Walter Paul Ralph and Sam; son John Scott; daughter Joan Ellen Hanson Griffis; granddaughter Melissa Griffis Bowen; grandson Terry Stephen; son in law Gary D. Bell. A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 6th at 2:00 p.m. at the home of his daughter Linda Bell 4820 S. Peninsula Dr. Ponce Inlet where he enjoyed many wonderful times with his family and friends.The family requests in lieu of flowers donations to be made to Halifax Hospice of Volusia County.
