Obituary

Irene McConihay Leahy age 92 of Pelican Bay Daytona Beach Florida passed away in the early morning hours of Monday March 29 2010. A 12:00pm gathering and a 2:00pm funeral service in her honor will be held Thursday April 1 2010 at the Daytona Chapel of the Lohman Funeral Home followed by an interment at Daytona Memorial Park. Irene was born on March 2 1918 in Charleston West Virginia to John and Irene McConihay. She earned her private pilot's license on seaplanes in Charleston W.VA prior to joining he Women's Air Force Service Pilots (WASP) during World War II and was stationed at Shaw AFB Sumter S. Carolina. In 1947 she met and married the love of her life and dedicated 30 years as an Executive Secretary with the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada in Washington D.C. She moved to the Daytona Beach area from Silver Springs MD in 1985 and was a proud member of Pelican Bay Country Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid golfer playing in many tournaments in the area. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her only survivor and devoted husband of 63 years David E. Leahy. Arrangements are under the direct supervision of Lohman Funeral Home Daytona.
