Ormond Beach
Ines M. Fortunato, 99, of Ormond Beach, FL peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Sunday, April 25, 2021 after a short illness.
Ines was born on October 15, 1921 in Livorno, Italy. She met her husband Nick at the end of World War II during street festivities in Livorno. Nick was in Intelligence with the Army and was stationed in Livorno. They saw each other, and the rest is history. They married in 1946 and Ines moved to New York with Nick where they started the Army life of being stationed all over the world. In the late 1960's they retired to Ormond Beach where Nick became active in City Government, serving as Commissioner and mayor with Ines supporting him all the way. Ines was a previous member of Oceanside Country Club where she loved playing golf with her friends. She really enjoyed shopping and going out to lunch with her friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Nick who died in 2002. Ines is survived by two sisters, Yolanda and Ronna in Italy and a nephew, Jay Fortunato from New York City.
After her Nick died, Ines volunteered for Meals on Wheels and enjoyed the interaction with the clients. Ines loved cooking her favorite Italian dishes, her eggplant parmesan was the absolute best and she often shared that dish with her friends. She loved animals and for many years fed every stray cat coming to her door. In her later years, she would go for a walk in Fortunato Park every afternoon.
