Ina Bullock Magee passed away peacefully November 3 2008. Ina an educator for 35 years was born in Tylertown Mississippi in 1919. Always a leader she wore many caps of responsibility during her teen years: working in the principal's office for three years; captain of the girl's basketball team for three years; and reporter for her neighborhood newspaper. Ina received her Bachelor of Arts and Masters Degree in Business Education from the University of Southern Mississippi graduating with honors. She was inducted into Phi Delta Kappa and is also listed in Who's Who in American Education. Before coming to Daytona Beach to teach business education Ina was head librarian at both Southwest Mississippi Jr. College and St. Johns Community College. In 1959 the family moved to Daytona where she taught at Mainland High School and Spruce Creek High School until retiring in 1980. Ina Magee taught business skills to many students who are now leaders of today. Ina was active in community and civic affairs. She served as church librarian for the First Baptist Church of Daytona for 30 years. In 1957 Ina was a judge for the Miss America contest at which Mary Ann Mobley was crowned Miss America. A lover of travel Ina and her husband Marlin traveled extensively circling the globe three times. During cruises on the Holland America Cunard Countess and Princess Lines Ina and Marlin modeled for the ships' fashion shows. Ina encouraged her family and others to ""smell the roses"" and ""to smile"". She always motivated her children and grandchildren to achieve their goals and to be successful. Ina encouraged her children to attend college and to get a good education. Ina is predeceased by her loving husband of 69 years Marlin Magee. She is survived by three daughters Shelby Harris Glenda McClure JaniceGutteridge; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be November 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach; interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery 320 White Street Daytona Beach.
