Immanuel Mittelstadt

Immanuel Mittelstadt was born in Romania living a pretty typical life as a kid back then. As a teen he and his family were displaced to Germany because of the Russian invasion bringing with them only what they could carry.

At 17 he was drafted into the German Army. He overcame many challenges during WW II including evading being killed while bringing supplies to the men at the front line. His comrades were surprised that he came back to camp alive. Normally, he was a communications specialist laying down communication lines and repairing them. He was later captured by the enemy and was a prisoner of war for four and a half years. He faced starvation, beatings, hard labor and sickness but by the grace of God made it through.

After being released in 1950 he met his bride, Adeline. They later married on May 5 ^th , 1951. They lived in Germany where he and his wife built their own beautiful home for themselves and their four children.

In 1964 they and their four children; Helmut, Brigitte, Ingrid and Gary; immigrated to the United States, the land of many opportunities. They lived in New York City for three years and had their fifth child, a son, Klaus. One of his primary jobs was working as a machinist. While there Immanuel also worked as a superintendent for over one hundred apartments; hardly knowing how to speak the English – he just learned as he went along.

Later they moved out of the city and together they built a home in Pawling NY; away from the city life right off the Appalachian Trail. He enjoyed clearing the land; making it beautiful with flowers, bushes and a large pond. He tended to his large vegetable garden and planted thousands of pine saplings. He even enjoyed buying other land and houses, fixing those up and selling them. He truly enjoyed working with his hands and using the gifts that God gave him. He was employed by Tuck Tape in Beacon NY as a boiler engineer for many years.

After retiring, Adeline and Immanuel moved to Ormond Beach, FL in 1988 to be closer with his family. He kept busy beautifying his home and 2.5 acres, tending to chickens, gardening: and he picked up his hobby of painting again. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Love Center at Calvary Christian Church and other various church functions.

He will be missed by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and sister.
