Ignazio (Nat) Maugeri 89 of Ormond Beach passed away September 29 2009. The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday September 30 2009 from 2-4pm and from 6-8pm at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach with a graveside service at 11:00am on Thursday October 1 2009 at Daytona Memorial Park 1425 Bellevue Ave Daytona Beach. Surviving him were his five devoted children; Sal Maugeri and his wife Valerie of Port Orange Carmine Maugeri and his wife Dottie of Port Orange Theresa Sherwood and her husband John of Palm Coast Ron Maugeri of Port Orange and Rick Maugeri and his wife Dina of Ormond Beach along with 15 grandchildren 9 great-grandchildren and his brother Joseph Maugeri of New Jersey and sister Francine Minni of New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years Anna. Nat was born on May 2 1920 in Raccuia Sicily Italy and moved to the U.S. as a baby; the son of Theresa Spano and Salvatore Maugeri. He grew up in Mamaroneck New York and when he was 23 years old he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was a teletype operator. For two years he fought in France England and Germany during WWII. Nat fought in the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944 and in 1945 he was Honorably Discharged from the Army. Nat was a stone mason by trade and formed his own construction company Maugeri Mason Contractors in Putnam Valley NY and each of his four sons worked with him. Nat became a successful businessman; but he never measured his success in terms of money he felt his real wealth was the blessing of his wonderful family. In the mid-80's after their children were grown and married; Nat and Anna decided to move to Ormond Beach; three of their sons had already moved there and soon their other two children followed. The family was together again in one state and now there were grandchildren and great grandchildren to spoil and love! Nat spent many hours with his grandchildren playing basketball and Anna always enjoyed watching the games. Their grandkids always knew that "Pop" would have a piece of gum and a dollar waiting for each of them! Nat did not move to Florida waiting for retirement; in fact he did not fully retire until he was 80! He continued to keep himself busy by working on his one and a half acre yard and loved to proudly show his achievements off. Nat was beloved by all who knew him.
