Obituary

Ichiro "Mick" Furuta age 92 of Ponce Inlet passed away at the Port Orange Care Center on Friday August 3rd 2012.

A visitation for Mr. Furuta will be held on Thursday August 9th at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona between the hours of 6:00 p.m and 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 a.m on Friday August 10th in the chapel of the Funeral Home. Burial for Mr. Furuta will follow the service at Daytona Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mick was born on February 8th 1920 in La Mesa California. He was the oldest son of five children born to Japanese immigrants Tsugi and Tokugoro Furuta. He grew up and worked on a small family farm in southern California. During WWII he and his family along with many other Japanese Americans were placed in internment camps. In 1946 Mick received a Bachelor's Degree with a major in Business Administration from the University of California Berkeley. He worked as the comptroller for Grant Hospital in Columbus Ohio before relocating to Florida in 1972. He then served as the comptroller of Daytona Community Hospital (Humana). Mr. Furuta was the founding business manager of Boye Marrese Lucas & Jennings M.D. P.A. the first private family practice group in Port Orange.

He is survived by: son Dr. Wilmer (Juanita) Furuta daughter Christine A. (Dr. Richard) Boye; grandchildren Sanford (Dr. Shannon) Boye Christopher (Libby) Furuta Amity R. Boye Alexander Furuta; great grandchildren Lynsey Furuta Lloyd Furuta Lesley Furuta Sydney Boye Benjamin Boye; and sister Michiko Hashimoto. He also leaves behind many extended family members and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children Amy Furuta in 1975 and second wife Sayoko "Betty" Furuta in 2003.
