Obituary

Hubert Nicholas Derouaux, 89, passed away in his Holly Hill home on November 25, 2016. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1927, "Bert" enlisted in the Navy in January of 1943 to serve his country in the Pacific Theater of the Second World War. He achieved the rank of Yeoman 2nd class and was honorably discharged after three years of active duty. Following his days in the armed forces, he continued his call to service through the Roman Catholic Church, where he was one of the United States' first married laymen to be ordained as a deacon through the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Baltimore, MD. He spent his professional life working as a station supervisor for the C&O/B&O railroad, and remained active in the Catholic Church for the rest of his days. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Dolores "Mitzi" Derouaux (ne Herderick) and their two children, Mark and Ann, as well as four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The world will miss his vibrant spirit, infectious personality, and devotion to serving the men and women of his community. Memorial donations can be made in his name to Mercy Corps https://www.mercycorps.org/don
