Howard R. Kiel 88 of Ormond Beach passed away surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness Friday January 25 2008 at The Halifax Medical Center Daytona Beach. His family are inviting friends for visitation on Friday February 1st at Lohman Funeral Home 733 W. Granada Blvd Ormond Beach from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held Saturday February 2 2008 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 1125 6th. St. in Daytona Beach at 2:00 PM with Bishop James Pillow officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery Ormond Beachside. Surviving are 3 sons Gary Kiel (Claire) Palm Coast John Kiel (Carol) Ormond Beach Keith Kiel Ormond Beach 2 daughters Mary Alice Donnelly (John) Ormond Beach Cindy Kiel Evans (Jeff) Port Orange a Step-daughter Cheryl L. McIntire Daytona Beach 20 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Howard is also survived by 2 bothers Bill Kiel (Port Orange) Herbert Kiel (Illinois) and 3 sisters Arlene Jekerle (Iowa) Ruth Wetzel (California) and Jane Wallace (Canada). He was predeceased by his first wife of 50 years Alice Kiel and his second wife of 10 years Bernice Kiel. Howard was born December 15 1919 in Lost Nation Iowa. He was a disabled Veteran serving in the U.S. Army during WW II. "Red" as he was known was transferred to this area in 1957 with his family by Montgomery Ward to be a manager at the store once located in downtown Daytona. Howard co-founded Kiel Realty Inc. in Holly Hill in 1959 with his late wife Alice. All 5 of their children worked in the family real estate business until 1992 when the building was sold. Howard was one of the founding members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints in Daytona and helped in the construction of the existing building on 6th Street where the funeral will take place. Prior to his illness Howard was an avid golfer pool player and league bowler at Daytona and Ormond lanes. He loved fishing dancing at the Moose Club and traveling.
