Howard Sidney (H.S. "Bill") Thompson, Jr., 88, of Palm Coast, FL passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August 28, 2015. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio on August 13, 1927 to Howard S. ("Tommy") and Welcome (Starr) Thompson.
After graduating from Rayen High School in Youngstown, Bill joined the Merchant Marines. Upon discharge, he attended Hiram College, where he was active in student government and played on the tennis team, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in May of 1951. Bill then proudly served his country in the US Navy, MCB#7, and was honorably discharged in 1953.
Bill began his banking career with the former Mahoning National Bank in Youngstown. He progressed through a number of departments, opened the Cornersburg office as manager, and served as the Vice President of Marketing until his retirement in 1989 after 34 years with the bank.
After retiring, Bill and his family moved to Palm Coast, FL. He led an active life in retirement; playing tennis, spending time at the beach, gardening, traveling, and reading. He especially enjoyed volunteering in his wife's elementary school classroom. Above all, spending time with family was his greatest joy.
