Howard Hulon Brown, 67, died Saturday, November 28, 2015, at his home in Port Orange.
Howard was born on December 29, 1947, in Springfield, Tenn. He was the son of the late Mary Elizabeth and Hulon Brown.

He graduated from Bransford High School in Springfield in 1965. He finished from Tennessee State University in 1970 with a B.S. degree in Technical Aeronautics. In August 2010, as a member of Tennessee State's Class of 1970, he received a Vintagers Certificate as a holder of a degree for more than 40 years.

Howard spent forty-two years working in aircraft development, simulation, training and nuclear development for Lockheed Martin, Martin Marietta, General Electric and McDonnell Douglas. His career sent him from St. Louis. Mo., to Daytona Beach to San Jose, Calif., back to Daytona Beach and finally --- with a daily commute --- to Orlando where he retired from Lockheed Martin in 2012.

Howard was a member of Tubman-King Community Church where he served as a trustee. He had been set aside to begin training as a deacon. He sang with the Voices of Thunder and enjoyed participating with the music ministry's various concerts. He served as president and held several other positions within the Brothers United Fellowship. He received the George Tye Man of the Year award in June 2015 in recognition of his tireless and dedicated service.

Howard was a life member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity having pledged Xi Nu Chapter in San Jose, Calif. After moving to Port Orange he transferred to Omicron Omicron, Daytona Beach Chapter and has served as Keeper of Records & Seal. He was honored as the chapter's Omega Man of the Year in 1999.

Howard was a computer buff and enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially football. His favorite football teams were Tennessee State Tigers and San Francisco 49ers. His dry sense of humor and his keen wit were enjoyed by many and will be sorely missed. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a special and amazing man. He was passionate and diligent about any assignment he undertook -- whether fraternal, church or work related. And you could always count on Howard to be the first to arrive for any event.

Survivors include a loving and devoted wife of 41 years, Juanita Hawkins Brown of Port Orange; a son, John Eric Brown of Houston; two grandchildren, Mackenzie Rae and Mason, both of Houston; two sisters, Ruth (Bobby) Trotter and Mattie McPhee, both of Springfield, Tenn.; two brothers in law, John (Sandra) Hawkins, Daytona Beach, and Carl (Kathy) Hawkins, West Orange, N.J. Also left to cherish his memories are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted friends and fraternal brothers.
In addition to his parents, Howard is preceded in death by a brother, Robert L. Dunn.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, December 5, at Tubman-King Community Church, 1090 George Engram Blvd., Daytona Beach. A visitation is scheduled for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the church and one hour before services on Saturday. Burial will take place in Springfield, Tenn., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Tubman-King Church Building Fund.
