Howard Thornton Black, 95, of St. Augustine, Florida passed away Saturday, November 2, 2024.  He was born on January 3, 1929 in Paris, Illinois.  He resided in Hammond, Indiana until he attended and received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Indiana State University in Terre Haute. He also did graduate work at Michigan State and Indiana Universities. He began his teaching career in the public school systems of Hammond, Indiana and Cincinnati, Ohio.  Moving forward in his career, he began teaching as a Physics Professor at Indiana State University.  He achieved many awards throughout his career, and he was proud to help inspire his students to learn.  He co-wrote thinking skills books to help children learn life- long critical learning skills.  After retiring from teaching, he couldn't stay away, so he continued as a Math Professor at Bethune-Cookman University, Daytona Beach, Florida.

Howard is survived by his son, Robert "Bob" Black; daughter, Jane B. McKee (husband, Kraig McKee); daughter-in-law, Vanta Black (John); several grandchildren, step-grandchildren; great grandchildren, and other extended family and friends.  He was predeceased by his son, John Howard Black.
