Holger "Rusty" Franz Alfred Rust age 67 of Deland passed away on January 31 2011. A service in his honor will be held 11:00 AM on Wednesday February 8 2012 at the Deland Chapel of the Lohman Funeral Home followed by an interment at Deland Memorial Gardens. A visit will be held on Tuesday 02/07; 5-7PM. A joint commemorative birthday party is planned at the AM Legion Post #6 at 6:30 PM on Feb. 29th Hosted by AM Legion Post #6 Deland VFW Post 2380 and Am Vets Post 13 all those who knew and loved Rusty are welcome to attend.
Rusty was born in Germany on Feb. 29 1944. As a small child he and his mother immigrated and became citizens of the US. He was a proud US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War serving on the USS Harry E. Yahnell; 1962-1964 and in the Naval reserve on the USS Conway 1964-1967. He continued to serve his nation and fellowman in many military & community organizations holding local and state positions. He distinguished himself as a member of: The Honor Society of the AM Legion of Volusia County; The 40/8 Honor Society Nat. Box Car Association WWI The Military Order of the Cooties holding many positions including Commander and Seam Squirrel. He was a lifetime member of: Charter AM Vets Post #13 in Deland VFW Post 2380 serving as Judge Advocate for 10 years The AM Legion Post #6 Deland where he held every position including 8 terms as commander The AM Legion Riders and Anchors Away at Post #6 Dist. #17 Commander of AM Legion a founding member of Foreign Vets of Deland. He was also an associate member of Marine Corp League-Participating in the annual "Toys 4 Tots" and as member of the Board of Directors of the Naval Museum he served as Chairman/Co-Chairman of many Veterans' Day Parades organizing several people and floats. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 34 years; Dorothy (Dottie) Rust and is survived by 2 sisters in Law Linda (Kenneth) Grosso and Edith Head 2 nephews: Kenny and Derek a niece Alyssa many relatives in Germany and his Vet organization family. This beloved brilliant gentle generous man loved his community his country and his fellow man and continued to serve his community and every vet.
