Hilton R. Ramirez, 104, passed away Friday September 22, 2017 at the home of his friends Bill and Dianne Chandlee after a short illness.

Hilton was born in San German, Puerto Rico in 1913 moving to New York City around 1927. Hilton and his wife, Henrietta, toured Florida before settling in Daytona Beach in 1949. Hilton had many jobs in his life but he always considered himself a musician first. Hilton learned to play the saxophone as a young boy and kept the music in his heart the rest of his life; even playing with such greats as Xavier Cugat and Tito Puente while living in New York City.

He proudly served America in the United States Navy during World War II in the Armed Guards aboard merchant ships, traveling the Caribbean, South America, the Suez Canal, Europe and Russia.

He enjoyed dancing and attended dances at all the Senior Centers and the Moose Lodge., Hilton also attended the dances at The Ormond Senior Center every Wednesday. When he could no longer dance he played his Maracas and tambourine with the Blue Notes Band.

He is predeceased by his parents Enrique and Ana Ramirez, his brothers Wilfred and Henry, his wife Henrietta and son Felix Ramirez.

Hilton's survivors include his daughter-in-law, Carol Ramirez of Whippany, NJ, his grand- daughter, Michele Jones-Ferrel of Livingston, NJ, his grand- son, Christopher Ramirez of Brooklyn, NY, his niece, Anita Ortiz of Sebring, FL., and three great grand- children. A Funeral Service for Hilton, will be held on Tuesday, October 3rd at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona beginning at 11:00am, with a gathering of friends and family beginning one hour prior.
