Hilda J. Callander 80 passed away at her home in Port Orange after a long illness on June 20 2008. Services are scheduled for Wednesday June 25th 2008 at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond Beach with visitation from 10 am - 12 noon. A funeral service will be conducted at 12 noon with the Rev. Mark Spivey officiating. Burial will follow at Daytona Memorial Park. Hilda was born in New York City on January 27 1928. She was active in the advertising and public relations field. As advertising manager for a boating magazine and a director of the New York Marine Trades Association she was one of the organizers of the "Around Long Island Boating Marathon". Additionally Hilda was the first woman in advertising for Newsday newspaper. After arriving in Florida in 1974 Hilda was involved in a number of businesses first of which was owner of Renaissance Antiques in Cocoa Village. She then attended the Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute in New York before becoming the Gourmet Demonstrator at Disney World Village. Later Hilda opened Bella Chocolate Shoppe and Tea Room in Deland. Hilda is survived by her husband of 38 years Robert and four children: Carol Daytona Beach Shores FL; Barbara of Longwood FL; Lee of Arcadia CA and Jeffrey of Brooksville FL; Another child Etta died in 1972. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Richard Carolyn John Christian Steven Aurora Travis Angela and one great-grandchild: Zachary. Hilda's last days were supported by Hospice of Volusia/Flagler for which the family will be forever grateful. Hilda will be greatly missed and will remain in our thoughts and prayers forever.
