Mr. Herbert Lee Thompson

Mr. Herbert Lee Thompson, age 92 years old was born on December 19, 1922 in Jacksonville FL to Harry George and Loretta Thompson. He and his family moved to Daytona Beach, where he attended Campbell St. Elementary School and Campbell St. High School. In his last year of high school he joined the army for 3 years and was honorably discharged, due to injuries incurred while serving in the military. He returned to Campbell St. High School to complete the necessary requirements to obtain his diploma. He later attended Bethune Cookman College for 3 years.
Herbert followed his passion and became an avid golfer; he excelled in this sport, winning many plaques and several trophies. He enjoyed traveling and moved to Chicago, where he was drawn to the world of jazz and became acquainted with many of the Jazz Greats. He played the saxophone, guitar, and piano.
While in Chicago, he was employed by Northwest Airlines as a sky cop. He was transferred to Daytona Beach and retired after 17 years. He also had the pleasure of reuniting with his childhood friend and classmate, who eventually became his wife. They were married 35 years until his passing on November 18, 2017.
His mother Loretta, father Harry, sister Margaret, brother Harry Jr. preceded him in death. He leaves behind his wife, Dorothy Thompson, son Darrell, wife Maria and grandson, Ezekiel Thompson of Connecticut; 3 granddaughters, Patrice, Rachael, and Savanna Thompson of Ohio; a step-son, Elder Algernon, (Carol) Hannah of South Carolina; a step-daughter, Paschell (Charles) Sampey, and step- granddaughter, Chantel Goodridge of Georgia. He also leaves a host of devoted nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
