A memorial service for H. Neal Schaefer 84 who passed away suddenly on April 21 2011 will be held on Sunday June 5 2011 at 2:00 pm at Riverview United Methodist Church 2253 John Anderson Drive Ormond By the Sea Florida with the Rev. Joseph H. Kim presiding. Mr. Schaefer was born on February 22 1927 in New York City. He spent most of his early life in North Plainfield New Jersey and graduated from Paul Smith's College New York with a degree in Hotel Management. In 1952 he moved to Florida with his wife the former Mildred McMahon (Mim) and purchased the Holiday Harbor Beach Motel in Ormond By the Sea. Together they owned and managed the motel for 52 years. Mr. Schaefer was a member of the Halifax Advertising Council the Ormond By the Sea Chamber of Commerce and various other local civic organizations throughout the years. Mr. Schaefer was a founding member of the Ormond By the Sea Volunteer Fire Department and served on the board of directors of the fire department for many years.Neal was also a founding member of the Ormond By the Sea Rotary Club and served as the club's president as well as holding many other executive offices over the years. He was still an active member at the time of his death. In recent years he was active at the Riverview United Methodist Church and sang in the church's choir. Survivors include his wife Mim Schaefer Ormond Beach; a sister Ann Neale Lake Forest Illinois; two daughters Marguerite Hun-singer Flagler Beach and Bonnie Murphy Winter Springs; two sons Paul Neal Schaefer Orlando and Scott Neal Schaefer Ormond By the Sea; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Riverview United Methodist Church 2253 John Anderson Drive Ormond By the Sea FL 32176.
