Col. Henry Omer Miller U.S.Army retired of Palm Coast passed away April 11th after a lingering illness. A visitation will be held Saturday April 25 2009 at 9:30 AM with a memorial service at 10:30 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Palm Coast with final rest at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.. Hank was born on July 13 1921 in Haverhill Massachusetts where he spent his youth and graduated from St. James High School. He received his Bachelor's degree in Economics from U. Mass. and promptly joined the U.S. Army. He served his country honorably during World War II and was awarded "Legion of Merit" for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service. Upon his discharge in 1946 having attained the rank of Technical Sergeant he then went on to graduate school at the University of Maryland. In 1950 with the onset of hostilities in Korea Hank rejoined the army in which he served until 1970 retiring as Lieutenant Colonel. At that time he was the Finance Officer in the Corps of Engineers at Ft. Belvoir Va. In 1971 he accepted a position with the Department of Defense Logistic Agency as the Officer of Accounting and Finance in Alexandria Virginia. In 1983 upon his second retirement he relocated to Palm Coast Florida. In retirement but with boundless energy and a strong sense of commitment he became an active member of the VFW; the MOWW (Now MOAA) in which he served as Commander of the North Florida Chapter; The Kentucky Colonels (President); The Movers and Shakers; and the Kiwanis Club of which he is recognized as honorary member. But primarily he became a champion of the Special Olympics. He devoted innumerable hours to this cause serving as coordinator with Flagler County and the state. His dedication was limitless. To this day he is recognized and affectionately known as "Mr. Hank." In 1991 he was designated as "Volunteer of the Year" by the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member and long time Treasurer of the Palm Coast Yacht Club and a devoted parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Hank was an avid Civil War buff;enthusiastic traveler; an ardent golfer; a meticulous Gardener and occasional poet. Hank leaves to treasure his memory: his devoted wife and constant companion of 62 years Marie(Sansoucie);faithful daughter Yvonne Bradshaw; loving son Robert (Ellen); grandsons Robert (Jessica) and Brendan Bradshaw; granddaughter Theresa Marie Miller all of Virginia. Also: brother Louis Miller; niece Joanne Miller and Scott Miller all of Massachusetts and a host of friends.
