Helene L. Lawrence, 87, of Port Orange, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015 after a short illness.

Helene was born in Yonkers, New York on December 29, 1927 the daughter of the late William and Gertrude Pauckert Schilling. She attended local schools and after high school, she followed her love for movies and worked for RKO Pictures in New York City, until she married Arthur Lawrence on April 29, 1950 at the age of 23. She raised eight children in New Jersey before moving to Deltona in 1973, where she enjoyed the beach, auto racing and raising her children.

Helene worked for the Deltona School District in the Food Service Division until 1979, and then worked as a Volusia County clerk of the Circuit Court. Upon retiring, she moved from Deltona to Port Orange and enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and crocheting. Helene was an avid NASCAR fan watching her races every week rooting for Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Survivors include her six sons and two daughters, Thomas (Kathleen), William, Donald, Robert, John (Leah), Russell (Carol), Debra (Kem) Stubblefield, Patti Ann Richards; 21 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange, 1201 Dunlawton Ave., with a visitation beginning at noon.
