Helen Mae Talton 85 of Ormond Beach passed away peacefully on Satuday February 5th 2011. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday February 12th 2011 at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona beginning at 11am. Interment will immediately follow at Daytona Memorial Park Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her late husband Louie Talton. Helen was born Helen Mae Teague on August 1 1925 in Taylorsville North Carolina. The family moved to Washington D.C where she met and married Louie O. Talton also from North Carolina who subsequently served as an Army officer during World War II. They had two daughters between 1941 and 1950. Helen worked as a secretary for the Department of Army and the Department of Health Education and Welfare in Washington D.C. The Talton family retired to Florida in1971 and became active members of the First Baptist Church of South Daytona. Helen served tirelessly on many church committees and taught Sunday school classes for over 30 years. She and her husband embodied the spirit of the Good Samaritan always ready to lend a helping hand whether they be family friend or a stranded motorist. Helen's family friends and faith enriched her life. She was gifted with a rare natural beauty only surpassed by the humility dignity integrity and grace she personified. The Bible and the Golden Rule served her well and she practiced her faith without preaching it or judging others for theirs. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years Louie Talton daughter Gerry Kay parents Gettys and Pansy Teague brother Charles Teague and sister Mary Sue Gordon. She leaves behind to cherish her memory daughter Gail Smith and her husband James W. Smith of Ormond Beach her beloved grandchildren Daniel Frattin of San Francisco California Dana Redfield of Asheville N.C. devoted sisters Dorothy Lenz and Edna Gottlieb nieces nephews and cousins from coast-to-coast and a multitude of friends. The family is grateful to Angela Walker and her family as well as Volusia Flagler Hospice of Ormond Beach who together graciously provided comfort and 24 hour care for Helen allowing her peaceful passing.
