Helen Grace Spence 81 of Ormond Beach passed away unexpectedly on April 8 2013. A Visitation in Helen's honor will be held Friday April 12 2013 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm in the Lohman Funeral Home Ormond Chapel. Born to Frank and Helen Herzberg in Flushing NY she graduated from John Adams High School and worked for New York Life before marrying William C. Spence in 1952. Our mom was a devoted Navy wife and loving mother. Our parents moved from Oneonta NY to Ormond Beach in 1973. They owned and operated the Crossed Palms Motel and Quarter Deck Restaurant and Lounge for many years. They later opened the Coffee Pot Restaurant (now the world famous Iron Horse Saloon). Mom was a true fighter having lived years on kidney dialysis and never letting it slow her down. She enjoyed playing bingo and dancing; she loved people and was the life of every party. She and Dad loved to travel and lived life to the fullest. Her children cherished her and they will miss her deeply. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband William son Douglas and sister Lorraine. She is survived by her sons Jack Mike Steve and Billy and her daughters Susan Close (Steve) Kathy Poole (Bill) Patty Thomas (Mark); 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; her New York sisters Dot and Carol and a host of extended family and friends. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.lohmanfuneralhomes.com.
