Helen Louise Gilbert, 89 of Ormond Beach, passed away on October 25, 2015 at Coquina Center Assisted Living Facility in Ormond Beach, Florida. Born Sept. 1, 1926 in Duffield, Pennsylvania to James and Catherine (Saum) Summers, Helen was the last of six sisters.
She and her family have been residents of Volusia County since 1952, relocating from Kansas. She was an active member and past president of the WSCS at the First United Methodist Church of Daytona Beach where she also sang in the choir. She was also President of the Customer Counsel at Coquina Center. Helen was a assembly worker with Capo Sunglass Company for 26 years until her retirement in 2004. She also worked along side her husband at Paul Gilbert Motors in Daytona Beach. She enjoyed sewing, making beautiful outfits for her family, including her daughter, Sondra's wedding dress. Most of all Helen loved being a homemaker, caring for her family and making her way to the beach whenever the opportunity arose.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 29th from 11;00-1:00 pm followed by funeral services at 1:00 pm at Lohman Funeral Home 1423 Bellevue Avenue Daytona Beach. Interment will be held at Daytona Memorial Park.
Helen is survived by her Daughter Sondra (Larry) Hensley of Ormond Beach, two grandchildren, Paula (Fredy) Michua of N. Carolina, and Jason (Melissa) Hensley along with their two children, six great-grandchildren, Michael (Stephanie) Parnell, N. Carolina, Aimee Parnell, S. Carolina, Christian Parnell, N. Carolina, and Victoria Michua of N. Carolina, as well as a great-great-grandson, Henry Parnell. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Daytona.
