IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Heckburn Lincoln
Brown
June 14, 1936 – April 17, 2024
I stand before you today with a heart heavy with grief, but also filled with gratitude for the life of my father, Heckburn Lincoln Brown. Thank you all for being here to honor his memory and celebrate his remarkable life.
My name is Nahum Brown, and I had the privilege of being Mr. Brown's son for 25 wonderful years. Mr. Brown was not just a man; he was a force of nature, a master of many trades, and a beacon of wisdom and kindness to all who knew him.
At 87 years old, Heckburn Lincoln Brown lived a life that was rich with experiences and accomplishments. He was a planter, a builder, a cook, and a scholar. With multiple degrees in radiology, he dedicated himself to his work, holding down three jobs to ensure that his family had everything they needed.
But beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Brown was a man of many talents and passions. He had a green thumb like no other and could make anything grow, from plants to dreams. He loved getting his hands dirty in the soil and creating beauty from the earth. Mr. Brown was known for his love of planting, and he could often be found in his garden, tending to his beloved banana trees, Caribbean plants, citrus trees, and a myriad of other fruits and vegetables. He had a knack for bringing home clippings from hardware stores or restaurants, eager to see if he could nurture them into something beautiful in his own backyard. Despite the challenges of Florida's sandy soil, he never gave up on his passion for gardening and spent countless hours cultivating his garden oasis.
And speaking of creating beauty, let's talk about Mr. Brown's culinary skills. He could whip up a mean curry that could rival any restaurant, and his Caribbean dishes were legendary. He knew that the way to someone's heart was through their stomach, and he never failed to impress with his delicious creations.
But perhaps what I'll remember most about my father is his wisdom and his unwavering love for his family. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, it was like listening to a sage. He had a knack for giving advice that was both practical and profound, and he always knew just what to say to lift your spirits or set you on the right path.
Mr. Brown was also a firm believer in the power of laughter. He had a wicked sense of humor and could always find the funny side of any situation. Even in our darkest moments, he would crack a joke or tell a funny story to lighten the mood and remind us that life is too short to take too seriously.
And let us not forget to acknowledge my father's service to our country. Heckburn Lincoln Brown proudly served in the U.S. Army as an Corporal, demonstrating bravery and dedication during his time in the military. He fought heroically in the Korean War, sacrificing much for the safety and freedom of others. We are forever grateful for his service and sacrifice, which will always be remembered as a testament to his strength and courage. Thank you, Dad, for your unwavering commitment to our nation and for setting an example of bravery for generations to come.
So, as we gather here today to say goodbye to Heckburn Lincoln Brown, let us not mourn his passing, but rather celebrate the incredible life he lived. Let us remember his laughter, his love, and his legacy of hard work and kindness. And let us take comfort in knowing that although Mr. Brown may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will live on forever in our hearts.
Thank you, Dad, for everything. We love you, and we will miss you always.
