Funeral service for Hazel Fay Finney age 92 of Ormond Beach Fl. died on Saturday May 6 2006 at Southland suites Assist Living will be held on Thursday May 11 10:00am with Pastor Virginia K. Barnes officiating. Friends and Family may visit on Wednesday from 3:00 to 5:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona 1423 Bellevue Daytona Beach FL. Burial will be in Daytona Memorial Park.
Hazel was born in Riesel Texas on January 1 1914. She was the daughter of the late Hy and Katherine Jenkins. She lived in Houston before coming to Daytona Beach in 1933. She Married Clyde Finney of Daytona on May 5 1934 and spent the WWII years in Norfolk and Brooklyn while he was in the Navy. They returned to Daytona Beach after the war and remained life long residents. They were married for 60 years before his death in 1995. Mrs. Finney was a hairdresser who opened her own salon in beachside on 1947. She began teaching cosmetology at the Mary Karl Vocational School in the 1960?s. When it became part of Daytona Beach Junior College she helped continue development of the cosmetology program where she taught until 1974. She and her husband were involved in the Dale Carnegie and both were winners of various speech events.
She was a member at Grace Lutheran church and enjoyed helping serve communion for the past several years Ms. Finney has been a resident at Southland Assisted living in Ormond Beach and has appreciated the wonderful staff and residents there.
Survivors include Two Sister-in-laws; Tommie Berch Ormond Beach and Nell Brown of Holly Hill; 4 Nieces; Linda Gartley and Nancy Rowland both of Ormond Beach Dolly Frith of Colorado and Ginger
Faye Pair of Texas 5 nephews; William Finney of Tampa Edward Brown of Holly Hill Louis Miller of Ormond Beach Joseph Finney of Fayetteville GA and Thomas Chandler of McMinnville Tennessee.
