Harry McGurn Goulding
May 13, 1933 – November 1, 2025

Harry McGurn Goulding, beloved husband, father, and proud New York City police officer, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, in Port Orange, Florida. He was 92 years old.

Born in Aiken, South Carolina during the Great Depression to Irish and English immigrant parents, Margaret and John Goulding, Harry learned early the value of hard work and discipline—qualities that guided his life. When his mother took a
position as a chef for the Vanderbilt-Whitney family, the family relocated to Westbury, Long Island. As a young boy, Harry began caddying at local golf courses, sparking a lifelong love for the game.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served proudly as a
paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division. Harry completed his service honorably and carried deep pride in his country throughout his life.

After a brief time working in industry in Rochester, NY, Harry returned to Long Island and chose a life of public service as a police officer. Accepted by both the Nassau County PD and the NYPD, he chose the excitement of Manhattan and joined the Midtown South precinct.

His courage and bravery earned him a place in the NYPD's Honor Legion after disarming an armed fugitive in Times Square at point-blank range. He also took part in memorable acts of service, including climbing the Empire State Building during the 1971 blackout to help rescue stranded visitors. As a member of the Honor Legion, he volunteered as a pallbearer for fellow officers who gave their lives in the line of duty—an act that reflected his deep devotion to his profession.

After 21 years of service, Harry retired from the NYPD and enjoyed second careers with Columbia Pictures and the Seaford Post Office, continuing to serve his community.

In retirement, Harry embraced his passions—golfing, gardening, relaxing with family, and their dogs Rocky and Charlie. He would often volunteer for golfing events like the US Open at Bethpage golf course. His sense of humor, kindness, and loyalty will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Harry is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carol; daughter Lisa and her husband TJ; son Sean; and sister Rita.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 11 at Lohman Funeral Home, Port Orange, FL. Harry will be laid to rest with military honors at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, FL.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Halifax Hospice or the BrightFocus Foundation in his memory.

The family would also like to especially thank the incredible staff at the Addison of Port Orange. They took such amazing care of Harry, especially in his final days.
