Harry Lord Day Powers, 91, of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 31, 2016 at Halifax Health Hospice Care Center, Ormond Beach, Florida. A "Service of Remembrance" will be celebrated on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond, 733 West Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach. The family will receive friends between the hours of 2:00 ~ 3:00 pm with services beginning at 3:00 pm followed by full military honors at the funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
Harry was born September 13, 1925 in Newark New Jersey to Harry and Francis (Gieger) Powers.
He served his country proudly during WW II in the U.S. Navy from 1943 ~ 1946. He went on to retire from the Naval Reserve in 1985.
He was a bus driver with New Jersey Transit, enjoyed aviation and spending time with his family.
He also enjoyed swimming, golfing, and making people laugh.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Ann (Zizak) Powers of Ormond Beach, by his children Harry Michael Powers and his wife Janet of Freehold, New Jersey, Scot Powers and his wife Kim of Forked River, New Jersey, Kathy DeMallie and her husband Dean of Rochester, New York, as well as 9 grandchildren Sean, Sheri and her husband Zachary, Matthew, Paul, Kyle and his wife Katie, Nicole, Caryn, Kevin, Brandon and his wife Heather, and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters Peggy and Lorraine. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Halifax Health- Hospice Ormond Beach Care Center .
