Harriet Marie (Hanzow) Nace of Port Orange, Fl. passed away on July 28th, 2016, in Daytona Beach, FL. She was born on October 20th, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio to Marie (Plamper) Hanzow, a piano instructor, and Carl William Hanzow, an electrical engineer. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Carl, and her husband of 35 years, Stanley Patrick Nace. She is survived by her daughter, Janet, son-in-law David Renaud, her caregiver Kat Moyer, and nieces and nephews. Harriet was beloved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Harriet took great joy and satisfaction in her life's work, which was as a librarian. She received a bachelor's and master's degree in library science from Case Western Reserve University and worked in the public library systems in Indiana, Ohio, and South Florida before taking a position as librarian of the Pine Crest elementary school in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Later, Harriet would become the technical reference librarian at the Braille and Talking Books library in Daytona Beach, and was church librarian at Westminster By-The-Sea Presbyterian Church for many years. She loved discussing books, inspiring others to read, sharing information via newsletters and library displays, and reading to children.

One of Harriet's lifelong interests was traveling, which started in childhood with family trips around the northeastern United States. She later visited England, Scotland, Spain, France, and many of the Caribbean islands. Harriet took a train trip across Canada to celebrate her 80th birthday and traveled extensively in the U.S., especially in Florida, California, Oregon and Hawaii.

Harriet was a longtime member of the American Association of University Women, and for many years she gave the inspirational message at the beginning of meetings. She had also been a member of the Palmetto Club, the Embroiderer's Guild, various garden clubs, and the women's circle at Westminster By-The-Sea church.

Harriet was a loving, generous, humorous, and cheerful lady who brought joy to those who knew her and will always be remembered with love. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to an animal rescue, in memory of Harriet's lifelong love for animals. A memorial service will be on Wednesday, Aug. 17th, at 10am at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona.
