Funeral Services for Harold G. Rhone age 87 who passed away on Sunday July 1 2007 will be Friday July 6 2007 at 11:00 am at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona. Family will receive friends on Friday July 6 2007 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am also at the funeral home. Harold was born on April 17 1920 in Rohrsburg PA. He was the son of the late Samuel Clyde Rhone and Stella Blanche (Schultz) Rhone.
Harold served in the US Army during WWII as a Sergent for Battery C 326th Field Artillery Battalion 84th Division. They were known as the Railsplitters in honor of Abraham Lincoln and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for Wise Delicatessen Company of Berwick PA for 32 years before his retirement and was the owner/operator of Harold G. Rhone and Son distributor of Wise Potato Chips in Daytona for many years.
Mr. Rhone's ancestor Johannes Heinrich Rhone immigrated to America in 1751 from Hamburg Germany and was a blacksmith that provided wagons to the Continental Army at Valley Forge. He was a member of Daytona Christian Church.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years Florence Marion (Siegel) Rhone who died in 1989. Survivors include three daughter Glenda Leighliter of Daytona Beach; Donna Fisher (Randy) of Holly Hill; Dorothea Nordeen (Denny) of South Daytona; two sons Harold Rhone Jr. (Barbara) of Orange Texas and Bradley Rhone of Daytona Beach; three sisters Doris Conner of Benton PA Flora Rutledge of Coatesville PA and Genevieve Kitchen of Benton PA; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
