Harold D. Cardwell Sr. 85 a live long Volusia County resident and author of many Historical Books passed away Friday April 13 2012 at the Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Port Orange. Harold was born in Varnell GA and is a retired Senior Rehabilitation Specialist with the Florida Department of Labor and Employment Security Division of Blind Services. He is listed in the Who's Who of America and also the World and is a registered landscape architect and horticultural therapist (emeritus). He graduated from the Florida Technological University with a Bachelors Degree. During WWII he was assigned to the Atomic bomb Project at Oak Ridge TN. and Los Alamos NM. He is a member of the Daytona Beach Historical Preservation Board President of the Port Orange Historical Trust Halifax Historical Society Florida Historical Society Past State President of the Florida Anthropological Society and the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation and was very active in many other state historical and anthropological organizations. He is known for gathering a wide variety of visual documents from early sketches and maps to vintage photographs and postcards that have helped him compile the many books that he has written with his wife Priscilla. Harold is preceded in death by his parents Arlie and Hettie Cardwell and his brother Glenn A. Cardwell. Harold is survived by his wife of 57 years Priscilla his son Harold D.(Ann) Cardwell Jr. his daughter Ruth Cardwell (Glenn) Landau Grandchildren Tim and Jason Cardwell Crystal Wolkiewicz Lindsey Rewis Chelsea Landau Dakota Landau Tim Rewis and Kristi Rewis Great Grandchildren Kaela and Jacob Wolkiewicz Grady Rewis and Jordan Rewis; sister in law Thelma Cardwell nieces Christine Cardwell Doughty Glenda Cardwell Coursen Carolyn Cardwell Jennings Barbara Cardwell Kazebeer. Visitation for Harold will be Monday April 16 2012 at Cardwell Funeral Home 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 PM. The Funeral Tribute will be Tuesday at 10 AM also at the funeral home with burial following at Daytona Memorial Park.
