Harold Franklin "Buddy" Byrd, age 95, of Daytona Beach, FL and Amelia Courthouse, VA, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2022 with family by his side.
Buddy was born on January 15, 1927 in Greensboro, NC to Hosea Franklin "Jack" Byrd and Eva Estelle McCuiston Byrd. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Florence "Flo" Byrd, Edna Byrd Morris, and Mildred "Mickey" Byrd.
Buddy enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 at the age of 17. He was stationed in Subic Bay, Philippines. As Seaman 1st Class, he was awarded the following medals: American Area, Victory World War II, Asiatic Pacific Area and Philippine Liberation.
In 1949, Buddy married his sweetheart, Nancy Miller Byrd. They later moved to Daytona Beach, FL with their children.
Buddy managed and owned several businesses in Daytona and Virginia. He retired from BugMaster Extermination, Inc.
Buddy was always country at heart. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, classic country and bluegrass music. He will be remembered for his devotion to Nancy, his love for family and friends and being a proud American to serve in the US Navy in WWII.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign War (Palm Coast, FL), American Legion, Masonic Lodge and Central Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents and sisters, Buddy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Nancy and their son, Daniel Franklin "Danny" Byrd.
Buddy is survived by his daughter, Kathe Byrd, his son, David Byrd (Lori). Dad Byrd had 5 grandchildren Kym Cady, William "Billy" Morford (Charleston), Bryan Morford, Lexi Byrd and Nikki Byrd; 5 great-grandchildren, Kyla Cady, Bryson Morford, Adalyn "Addy" Morford, Magnolia Morford and Solstice Morford, and sister-in-law, Etta Blonsick. Uncle Buddy also had many nieces, nephews and their children.
Visitation and Service will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona, 1423 Bellevue Ave, Daytona Beach, FL.
