Balch, Harold E - Harold E Balch, passed away on Saturday May 20, 2017 at Halifax Health-Hospice in Port Orange, Florida under their watchful care and in the presence of his family. Harold was born on December 25th 1925 to Ervin C. and Blanche C. (Johnson) Balch in Springfield, Vermont. He served his country as a Merchant Marine during World War II and received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Coast Guard in 1945. Harold also served in the United States Army Air Corps as an Airplane Engine Mechanic and received a Certificate of Proficiency in 1948 before being honorably discharged in 1949. He was proud of his service to his country and just as proud to be called a veteran.
Harold is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Litchfield and Laura Underwood, four daughters, Judith Rosenberg, Patricia Balch, Catherine Talanian and Janet Girgis as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his 1st wife Alice Bowers Balch who passed unexpectedly in 1952 and his 2nd wife Marjorie E Moulton Balch who passed in 2013. Also predeceasing Harold were his two brothers , Brigadier General Donald H. Balch and James Balch and his sister Alice Quimby. Before Harold and his wife Marjorie retired to Florida in 1987, he enjoyed two careers, the first as a heliarc welding specialist and then as an investor in real estate, but Harold's greatest enjoyment came from the many years he and Marjorie spent together in retirement.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 11:00am at Lohman Funeral Home at 1423 Bellevue Ave, Daytona Beach, Florida. The family will receive guests beginning one hour prior to the service, which will be presided over by Pastor Ray Dubois from Family Worship Center. Interment will follow at Daytona Memorial Park with Military Honors. Our many thanks to everyone!
