H. Gene Kinsley, 90, died November 24, 2017 at Florida Hospital Memorial after a short illness. Gene was born in Hartville, Ohio to Aaron and Lottie Kinsley in October 1927. He graduated from Hartville High School where he was an all-county basketball player his senior year.

Gene attended Ohio University where he earned his BS degree in 1949 and played guard on the basketball team all four years. After college, he started teaching English at Liberty Union High School in Baltimore, Ohio and successfully coached the varsity basketball team for several years. In the mid-fifties, he was asked by the superintendent of the newly consolidated Lake High School to move back to his hometown of Hartville to teach American History and coach the varsity basketball team.

After seven years, he retired from coaching and continued to teach. Gene was a member of the Lions Club in Hartville. He obtained his Master's Degree in Psychology from Kent State University which allowed him to become Assistant Director of Admissions at the Kent State Branch in Wadsworth, Ohio. When the Wadsworth Branch closed, he was asked to become the Director of Admissions at the Stark County Branch of Kent State University. He retired from this position in 1984 and moved to Daytona Beach. In 1985, he began to work for the Department of Children and Families as a Counselor and continued until 1992 after deciding to retire to play more golf with his buddies and travel with his wife.

Gene was a loving, caring husband and father. Gene is survived by his wife of 66 years, Janis; his three children: son Kim (Nancy) of DeLand, daughter Kristy Vossler (Brian) of Cumming, GA. and daughter Lori DeLone (Peter) of Portland, OR., along with 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He will be missed and always remembered.
