Obituary

H. Helen Halaban Gebet of Orlando Florida passed into eternal rest on October 14 2010 at the age of 87. A native of Ambridge PA Helen relocated to Deland in 1976 where she worked as personal care supervisor at the Florida Lutheran Retirement Center. While in Pennsylvania she helped with the original campaign to administer the polio vaccine she helped establish the first public TV station in Pittsburgh and she was involved with the American Cancer Society Muscular Dystrophy Girl Scouts of America and other community events and campaigns. After graduating from nursing school Helen entered the U.S. Navy where she served as a pharmacist mate. After returning to Ambridge she married Albert Gebet and they remained there through his passing in 1969. Her friends and family cherished this amazing lady who always took care of everyone and she was the well loved ROCK to many and loving daughter mother and grandmother to three fortunate generations. Left to cherish her memory are her children Russell Gebet of Orlando; and Cathy (Gary) Benn of Virginia; and her two grandchildren David Benn and James Benn of Virginia. She is predeceased by her parents Dymetro Halaban and Katherine Cherep Halaban; her husband of 20 years Albert and sisters Mary Mathews Nellie Andrus and Anne Halaban.
