Obituary

Guillermo Rafael Chegwin 99 passed away on Friday December 7 2008 at the Terrace Nursing Home in Daytona Beach where he had resided for the last seven years. A service of witness to the resurrection will be held on Saturday December 20 2008 at 3:00pm in the chapel of the 1st Presbyterian Church in New Smyrna Beach where he was a member. Rev. Bev Richardson officiating. The church is located at 509 Magnolia Street. Gil as he was better known was born in Colombia South America April 25 1909. Guillermo retired from teaching in the Colegio Americano in Barranquilla Colombia after 25 years. The school had been established by the Board of Missions of the Presbyterian Church. Guillermo taught math religion short hand typing and was a strong supporter of sports in the school system in the city of Barranquilla. He was an avid soccer player excellent tennis player and a long distance runner. His love for chess prompted him to enter local and world-wide competition much of it by mail. Gil felt a deep call to preach and teach the Bible. He completed biblical and theological studies through the board of missions of the Presbyterian Church in Princeton and became an ordained-lay pastor. When he moved to the US he established a church in Lansdale PA with the support of the New Mennonite denomination. Gil is survived by his son Rev. Dr. William Chegwin of New Smyrna Beach; Brother Eduardo and his family who still reside in Columbia; three grandsons Eric Doug and Terry of the Oviedo Florida area and two great great grand children Micah and Emily.
